We will be providing free transportation to the Space Legends, Sonic Universe Concert and all of the optional tours. However, if you would like to hire a car during your stay I would highly recommend a company called Auto Reisen as they seem to offer the most competitive rates on the island. For example a Renault Twingo with AC for seven days hire from 21st September would cost you 104 Euros with Auto Reisen and a Ford Fiesta would cost 112 Euros. There are a number of other very good hire car companies that offer very competitive rates that would allow you to see more of this beautiful island.
10.- How far is the Ritz-Carlton, Abama from the Airport?
It is around 30 to 35 minutes by taxi. The Ritz-Carlton, Abama also offers a Mercedes limousine service to and from the airport.
11.- Will it be possible for me to book on one of the optional tours at a later date should I wish to do so?
Yes, it will be possible. However, we would recommend that you book as soon as possible as there is limited availability.

Yes, the programme has been deliberately designed to allow delegates to have free time in the morning and lunch time before the conference sessions start at 15.00.

Yes, all of the conference sessions will be held in the conference venue The Ritz-Carlton with the exception of the Space Legends tribute, which will take place at the Auditorio in Santa Cruz  on Saturday, 27th September. The roundtable discussion will be taking place in the GTC telescope in La Palma on Thursday 25th September at 18:00 and will be transmitted live directly back to the conference room at The Ritz-Carlton Abama. It would not be logistically possible to fly everyone to La Palma for the roundtable discussion and the GTC Telescope has a maximum capacity of 100 people.

We will be providing plenty of different telescopes to use during the Starmus Party at the Parador at the foot of Mount Teide, so it won’t be necessary. However, you are of course welcome to bring your own telescope and astrophotography equipment to Tenerife (as long as it’s not too big!)
16.- I have never been to Tenerife or the Canary Islands before can you tell me a little bit about them?
The Canary Islands constitute some of the most beautiful, varied and exotic scenery in Spain. Due to their location, one could say that the Canary Islands are a unique tropical paradise in Europe. The exceptional climate has earned the Islands the title of ‘The Fortunate Islands’ as climate is temperate through-out the year.Of the seven Islands in the archipelago, TENERIFE is the one which offers the greatest variety of contrast.
Teide nevado
The variations in altitude provide a varied scenery and wonderful sensation of being able to swim in the warm ocean while contemplating, in the distance the snow capped mountain-top of the TEIDE volcano, the highest mountain in Spain and World Heritage by The Unesco.

Snow and lava, sun and sand, the contrasts of Tenerife

Sheer cliffs and sandy beaches, little villages that remind one of the past and modern installations ready to receive the visitors from abroad. Contrasts and more contrasts in the Island of eternal spring: TENERIFE. More information on Tenerife and the Canary Islands can be found in the Tenerife Tourism Office.

Starry, Starry Night

Tenerife offers a whole new world at night! If you can stay awake long enough to see them, the night skies are sublime. Low levels of light pollution and proximity to the equator and Teide translate into amazing year-round star-gazing opportunities, as clear skies give rise to remarkable views of the Milky Way, nebulas and famous globular cluster, Omega Centauri. With the naked eye, a night sky viewed from most of the island is a spectacle, but with a telescope, you can feast on the details of Saturn’s rings, and the satellites orbiting Jupiter and the Andromeda Galaxy. A great way to get more from your holiday!(Our thanks to Passport Magazine for the Starry, Starry Night article)
